Great story, and puzzels.. Great game. The atmosphere is very interesting and keeps you wondering why you're solving all these puzzles in terms of the story. The puzzles are a lot of fun to solve with simple mechanics that builds on itself to become more layered/complex but never frustrating (similar feel to puzzles I've played in games like Lyne). Usually I can't play puzzle games like Lyne for more than an hour at a time before getting a bit bored - but the ones in this game kept my attention the entire time, partly due to the story providing context for solving the puzzles. The graphics and sound were solid, and had no technical issues of any kind with everything just working as expected. I've played for at least three hours so far and still looks like a lot more puzzles to solve. Definitely worth the price so give it a shot.. 4/10Sorry, James, I can't play your game anymore. In Sorry, James, you play as a man named James Garner. When the game begins, you're asked by your boss to decrypt some files. You decrypt the files by completing puzzles that, as noted in the game's description, are initially similar to Minesweeper. I'm not usually a big fan of puzzle games, but I do enjoy Minesweeper and thought that the salacious nature of the story would keep me engaged. Completing puzzles reveals chat transcripts between a "woman" named Elisa and a man named Tom. However, at least initially, you are only able to read Elisa's side of the conversation.I loved the aesthetic of the game - the processing noises and mechanical keyboard clacks, and the dated desktop. I also enjoyed the first two levels of puzzles (pt1.a and pt2.a). However, the puzzles ramp up considerably in complexity until they become much more difficult than Minesweeper ever was. I found that after a while I just wasn't enjoying myself any more. I think that I was under the impression that Sorry, James was primarily a compelling story that simply had a few puzzles to keep the player engaged and pace the exposition. However, it's really a puzzle game at heart.The story never grabbed me, and it didn't help that the English translation is very rough and the chats were sometimes challenging to comprehend. It's pretty obvious that the game was not originally an English one. It would benefit the developer to hire an English translator for the dialogue. I think my error was that I thought I was buying a meta-level story with a few puzzles on the side, and it's really more of a puzzle game with a meta-level story on the side. I feel that the strategy needed to complete the puzzles could be much clearer (I had to look up what multiple symbols indicated outside of the game), and the story could unfold quicker to justify the effort of solving the more complicated puzzles.. THis game definitely needs a Meh Rating because its a fun enough puzzle game but the 4th wall breaking elements are kinda weak. Sorry, James came out at the perfect time for me. I had just finished Doki Doki Literature Club and was in the mood for more psychological horror, breaking-the-fourth-wall type of games. This one definitely fits the bill, tasking you (a tech worker at weapons giant Mantis) with covertly decrypting a collection of files and responding to IM messages from your boss and colleague. It also interacts with the real world in some surprising ways, adding to the feeling that you are searching for clues anywhere you can find them.The primary “game” at the center of Sorry, James is a fairly simple number-based logic puzzle. Each base panel must be connected to the given number of same-colored squares, and your task is to figure out how to lay those squares out so that each base panel gets its requisite number of connections. There are a few modifiers added throughout the game to make it more challenging, but once you get a handle on what the modifier does, none of the puzzles require more than a few minutes of clicking around to figure out.The real story lives in the files you solve puzzles to decrypt – they contain bits of a text conversation between a woman named Elisa and someone else (their parts are corrupted or still encrypted). The conversation bits are not unlocked in chronological order and details are sparse so it’s a bit difficult to tell what is going on, but it becomes clear that the two people begin chatting by accident and develop a relationship over time. The mystery second person talks about a woman he used to know, who turns out to be an AI he worked to create. I have a wholly undeveloped fan theory that at least one of the two people in the chat is also an AI, but like I mentioned earlier, details that would confirm this theory are sparse in the game.It took me a few hours to finish Sorry, James and I did spend a couple more hours trying to figure out one last (optional) mystery. It is not a long game but is very inexpensive, and satisfying even to just solve the logic puzzles without worrying about the larger story. I recommend picking it up. I like this game but unfortunately I'm allergic to maths.
